GMTWeekendFall2014

We had a great time with about 100 gamers at our most recent GMT Weekend at the Warehouse on October 5-8. Thanks to all of you who attended and made the event so much fun!

We do now have dates for our Spring Weekend, so come join us on April 26-29, 2018, for our 35th (!) GMT Weekend at the Warehouse! We’ll spend the better part of 3 1/2 days, often long into the night, playing your favorite GMT (and non-GMT, if you’d prefer) games. This is mostly an open gaming event, although we do have tournaments from time to time.

Gaming starts around 8 each morning and goes until Mike Lam and the Down in Flames Aces event players collapse from exhaustion in the wee hours of the morning.

Quite a few GMT Designers and Developers usually attend these weekends, but we don’t know yet for certain who’ll be here in the Spring. We’ll be updating this list often between now and the event as we know exactly who’s attending this time.

  • Gene Billingsley will run a Friday demo and test Mr. President.
  • John Zrimc will be back (missed you in the Fall, John!) hosting his bi-annual game of Sword of Rome on Friday.
  • As usual, Mike Lam will be running the Down in Flames Aces Event – which.is.awesome! Come join Mike and a friendly group of air enthusiasts in this fast-action card game of aerial mayhem!

You know that Paths of Glory, GMT’s fifth best-selling game of all time, has had many editions, reprints, and even versions in a few different languages.  You know that Ted Raicer’s groundbreaking classic introduced a generation of gamers to a card-driven version of World War I that reinvigorated players’ interest in this topic. What you didn’t know, and are about to find out, is that the seventh iteration of the Boardgame Players Association Play-By-eMail tournament is getting started!
These events have become increasingly popular; this results in each tournament taking an increasingly longer time to play out to a conclusion – the sixth tournament finalists spent three years in the trenches over six rounds!  With Nick Anner having claimed the throne, it’s now time for another set of recruits to enter the arena.  There is only a brief moment in time between the multi-year POG tournaments; NOW is the time to sign up, do not delay!
Paths of Glory VII Tournament Summary:
  • This is a double elimination event.  All contestants will get to play at least two games and will have a shot at the finals even after losing any prior match.
  • Players of all experience levels with both POG and PBEM are welcome.
  • First round registration goes through September 26th with the first round matches commencing on October 1st.
  • There are no costs associated with entering.  Any BPA member in good standing as of October 1st is eligible to participate for the duration of the event.  (If you are NOT currently a BPA member, there is a separate membership for those only interested in their PBEM tournaments.)
  • Indicate your interest by dropping an e-mail to the GM, Tom Gregorio.
The nitty gritty can be found on the POG tournament page.
The GMs look forward to seeing you on the battlefield!

Trevor Bender and Harold Buchanan will be running a Combat Commander Tourney at Es Con. If you are in SD Jan 22 to Jan 24 we would love to have you. Open to all skill levels – we will even teach! Details below:

COMBAT COMMANDER Tournament

ES CON 2016

Welcome to the three day, open entry, CC Tournament! Players are free to come and go anytime. The four players with the most overall Wins (W’s) by 1:00PM on Sunday will advance to a Single Elimination final. This will be a self-sorting style tournament where players arrange their own opponents, scenarios and starting times. The GMs (Trevor Bender and Harold Buchanan) can assist with pairings, scenario selection and rules questions as needed. Guidelines are as follows:

• Players can recruit their opponent and determine sides in whatever manner they both agree to; let the GM know if you are looking for a game
• When possible, try to play a different opponent for each game; if this is not possible, try and play a different scenario or switch sides if playing the same scenario
• You are free to choose any GMT published scenario, though one should play a scenario
• If a scenario cannot be mutually agreed to, use the recently published CC Tournament Battle Pack Nr 7and roll a 12 sided die to determine the scenario to be played
• The GMs have copies of all of the Battle Packs and Modules in the series if you need to borrow any
• Players are to sign in with the GM and record their results on their individual Tournament Record Card and the overall Tournament Roster
• All games played on premise from 4:00 PM Friday and concluded by 1:00PM on Sunday are to be recorded for the Open Entry portion.
• If there are ties, Advancement Points will be used to determine the final 4

Note: Prizes will be awarded Sunday Night. The four finalists will all receive some level of prize.

FaTDoG

Harvey Mossman will once again be hosting the annual Friday After Thanksgiving Day of Gaming (FATDoG) historical board gaming convention on November 28 in Plainview, NY on Long Island. It is a one day Con that has been growing tremendously over the past few years and draws hardcore historical board gamers, historical miniature players, and some Euro gamers.

In addition to offering great game play, FaTDoG has always been about promoting the hobby and spotlighting the game manufactures that make the hobby possible.  Each year they pick one game publisher to feature and this year GMT got the nod. So they are promoting GMT at FaTDoG, and also cross-promoting GMT on Grognard.com and TheBoardGamingLife.com.

Among the expected 125 – 150 attendees this year, there will be several GMT designers showing off their new  designs, including:
